Bandcamp VAT Update (Normal Service Resumed)

Looks like I will NOT be disabling my digital downloads on Bandcamp on 1st Jan 2015. The latest from BC is that they will be dealing with the VAT with regards to downloads. Which is very good news for all the musicians and small independent labels out there. So I looks like when I do get round to finishing the new album it will be on Bandcamp as CD and Download.
On that note......Happy New Year to you all, see you on the other side.

Bandcamp Downloads Now Disabled (Temporarily)

Sadly from Jan 1st 2015 my digital music will no longer be available to download and purchase from Bandcamp. Due to new EU law anyone selling music downloads online has to now pay VAT. I have spent many a sad and dull hour today reading all the FAQs and HMRC docs regarding this and like quite a few others have decided not sell my music as digital downloads on Bandcamp for the time being (might change if it all gets sorted out)
On the plus side all my albums/music will still be on Bandcamp to listen to (stream) and I should add that CD copies of my albums will still be available from Bandcamp (seems the tax issue is all sorted there)

Alien Jams Nov 30th

A month or so ago Chloe Frieda who hosts and runs The Alien Jams show on NTS Radio & also the Alien Jams Record Label, invited me back onto the show. I was last on the show way back in February 2014 and had a fantastic time. So I was very much looking forward to it again. This time round I played tunes by The Soulless Party, Simon Heartfield, Alan Hawkshaw, Thomas Leer, The Listening Center and Space Art. I had a fantastic time, and after a very swift post show drink I bid my farewells to Chloe and headed of to find the tube station. Top tip for the day, always check to see if there is any engineering work taking place on the underground.

Alien Jams NTS Radio Sunday 30th

I have been asked back on to the NTS Radio Alien Jams show on Sunday 30th November at 5pm. I have sorted out a nice selection of music/records to play so if you get the chance do tune in for a listen.

Aderlating, Kemper Norton, Soulless Party, Emily Jones, Septimus Keen. Screenings of Mumsy Nanny Sonny and Girly and Shockwaves, and selections from The Ghost Box Film Retrospective will be shown. Sadly there is no possible way that I can get along for the weekend, so best I check out Hotels ready for next years event.

This collaboration came about after I made a visit to Douglas’s recording studio, Twister Valley Records in North Devon to spend the weekend immersed in music, writing and producing field recording’s whilst rambling the countryside and beaches of North Devon. The product of this weekend’s folly was ‘My Morning Ritual’, an electronica scene scape produced by Keith Seatman with words by Douglas E Powell which explores the beauty and ancient rural secrets of the surrounding North Devonshire countryside. I have since recorded another track with Doug and a 3rd might be in the pipeline. All these tunes should be on the next album due out sometime in 2015.

An email leads me to The Black Meadow

So I sent Chris an email, he sent me one back.

Threads BBC TV 1984

I recently re-watched the 1984 BBC production Threads. I remember watching Threads when it was first shown and must admit it scared the hell out of me. 30 years later and it still bothers me. I have no intention of outlining the whole story here, there is no point. But if for some reason you do not know what Threads is about here we go. Threads centers on life in and around Sheffield before (build up of hostilities), during (Nuclear Exchange) and after (immediate and 10 years). Threads is horrific, dark and down right disturbing. It is also happens to be as relevant today as it was in 1984. If you have never seen it, watch it now. Threads was nominated for 7 Bafta awards. In 1983 NATO held Operation Able Archer which resulted in the biggest Nuclear scare since the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1963.

Douglas E Powell & the Rising Spirit St Anne's Chapel

If your in North Devon around the 30th of May, then you really should pop along to St Anne's Chapel Barnstable to see Douglas E Powell & the Rising Spirit do their thing.

Alt-folk, alt-country, acoustica and Anglo Americana; Douglas E Powell is both a lyricist and poetic singer-songwriter. His songs are wistful, melancholy and fragile. Layering wistful stories over classic English folk blended with alt-country, he is well known in the south west live music and gig scene. Musical influences derive from a mixture of American country music, blues and folk music.

All thats left of the once mighty Badge collection

Whilst having a rummage around in the loft the other day, I came across all that is left of my mighty badge collection. I say mighty because it was. From Jelly Tots and Rhubarb to UFO Punk/Post Punk, Star Wars (Where did they go??) and beyond. The Swell Maps and Undertones badges are a tad rusty. The reason for this is I fell into a river with these two pinned to my old black Harrington Jacket.  This lot I will hang onto.

2 Men Twisting in a Valley

A few weeks back, I headed West to Twister Valley North Devon to catch up with my friend singer songwriter and all round top chap Mr Douglas E Powell. When there I asked Mr P if he would be interested in writing some lyrics and singing on some new tunes/ideas that I am working on. Mr P said he would be very interested in doing this, so a new project is now looming for much later in 2014/15. After this discussion we adjourned to Mr P's studio to listen to records play some new tunes, and drink cider and ale (Doug Cider, me Ale)
Early next morning we had a stroll through Twister Valley, where I finally saw the Crackling Buzzing pole which Doug had sampled the year before. As usual a fantastic time in Twister Valley with Doug and his wonderful family.
